Acquiring strategic lands to protect critically endangered Central California Coast Coho Salmon and their habitat. The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has identified Marin County’s San Geronimo Valley watershed as critical habitat for both coho and steelhead, and an area that requires immediate and focused action to prevent extinction.
C-SALT acquires creek-side properties, open spaces and wildlife habitat that is transferred to local, state and federal agencies for permanent protection and management. Our experience coordinating with partnering agencies and leveraging funds is key to effectively acquiring and preserving land.
Partnering with individuals in the community to establish conservation easements on their properties, which allows land owners to retain ownership while also achieving C-SALT’s conservation goals. C-SALT may help landowners protect their property by purchasing conservation easements and then holding the title to these easements.
Acquire and steward property to combat a lack of affordable housing in the San Francisco Bay Area, promote conservation and environmental job skills and worker training, and to improve the economic, educational, cultural, environmental and social condition of residents in Marin County.
Promote and provide environmental education to the public regarding sustainable watershed and salmon protection practices.
